EDUCATION
Our core tasks at Clever Kids are individualized homework help, learning support and tutoring. We help our children from grade R (age 5) to grade 12 to close gaps in their basic knowledge, teach them how to learn and enjoy learning and monitor their progress. Each age group is cared for by 1-2 members of staff throughout the school year.
Educational resources and computer access
We offer the children access to a wide range of age-appropriate learning materials, educational games and computers for research work and digital learning programmes. For example, we work a lot with a specific learning software in which the children can learn Maths and English independently in line with the South African curriculum. They are shown the solutions to incorrect answers. For every 1000 questions answered correctly, our children receive a certificate and a small reward. This learning programme is very popular with many of our children.
School projects
The children often have to complete projects for school (such as building an electromagnetic crane, making a mask...), for which they need materials and support. We always have a full house during the project phase, as some of the children bring their working groups with them.
Promoting literacy
Our children love books! As many children and young people in South Africa cannot read properly and books are expensive, it is very important to us to provide our children with books and to promote literacy and the joy of reading. We have a library with books in English and isiXhosa for all age groups, which is used on a daily basis. We are especially grateful for the co-operation with Biblionef South Africa, who have donated many books to us.
